I Cannot Find the Time
How many times have you said that?  I’ve said it, and I’m sure nearly everyone has.  We certainly must not be looking in the right place, because “time” has not gone anywhere.
For entrepreneurs, scheduling our days can make the difference between success and failure.  For those who work their business part time, they simply cannot work their business whenever they have a few minutes “to spare.”  For those working a full-time home business, if our time is not well organized, we may never get to high-priority tasks.

It is very helpful to have a schedule of what days we plan to work, how many hours we plan to work on those days, and at what time we will start and finish working each day.  In addition, we’ll likely be more productive if we schedule the various tasks we plan for each week.
For example:
Monday, Wednesday Friday – place online ads for one hour, beginning at 4 PM.
Monday through Friday – spend one hour participating on IBOToolbox, beginning at 3 PM.
Daily – Call all prospects received within the past 24 hours, beginning at 5 PM.
If we plan our days, treat our business like a job where we are expected to start and finish at a particular time, we will accomplish more and be more successful.  Many business owners treat their businesses more like a hobby to do whenever they can squeeze in an hour or two.  It is unlikely they will ever succeed with their business.

Time is ours to spend however we wish to do so.  We must “make” the time to do the many tasks required to maintain and grow a business.  If we are really serious about what we are building, we should never be unable to “find the time.”

My Point is…

To most Westerners, acupuncture is mysterious, and many people are skeptical that it can actually do anything to relieve pain or treat health issues.  The Chinese have been using acupuncture effectively for thousands of years.

According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), the term “acupuncture” describes a family of procedures involving the stimulation of anatomical points on the body using a variety of techniques. The acupuncture technique that has been most often studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manipulated by the hands or by electrical stimulation.

I have received acupuncture many times over the past 15 years or so.  I have severe osteoarthritis that affects virtually every join in my body.  A couple months ago, I had a bad fall, landing on my knees and ending up with bruises from head to two.  As a result, I have had debilitating back pain and both my knees hurt so bad that I walk with a limp.

Having recently moved to California, I searched for and found an acupuncturist nearby.  I have received several treatments over the past three weeks or so.  It turned out that my back pain was due to inflammation of my sacroiliac joints.  My knees, particularly my right knee, may be beyond help (without surgery).

With each acupuncture treatment I had very thin, sterile needles inserted on several spots on my sacroiliac joint,  back and my right knee; I had moist heat applied, using an  hydroculator (a sort of quilted device filled with a clay-like substance used for pain management); and the acupuncturist massaged a liniment to all the sore areas.

My back/sacroiliac joint hurts only if I do too many physical activities.  My knees now hurt much less, and the pain is no longer constant.

Scientific studies have proven that acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of ailments and pain.  Some doctors even use acupuncture to relieve pain during surgical procedures. Acupuncture cannot cure cancer, however, it can help to relieve the pain it causes and ease the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.  Acupuncture can be used to treat skin diseases, psychiatric and mental disturbances, relieving angina pectoris, and a variety of heart problems.

I am not suggesting that acupuncture is a cure-all.  Not at all.  For serious health conditions, acupuncture can be used in conjunction with traditional medical treatment, not necessarily instead of.

Many people believe it will not work, and thus think it cannot work for them.  However, believing it will work has no effect on whether or not it will be effective.  I know a veterinarian who treats horses with arthritis with acupuncture and has seen remarkable results.  The horses do not believe or disbelieve it will work.  It simply does.

Some people are also afraid that acupuncture may be painful.  I will not tell you there is never any discomfort; however, the needles used are extremely fine, so you likely will not even feel it being inserted. The only distress I have felt is from what the needles are meant to do… activate the body’s meridian paths where qi (pronounced Chi - vital energy) and blood pool – in the same way that water might pool. This pooling can cause pain and other health issues.

If you are suffering from pain, in particular, you may want to seek an acupuncturist.  Do your homework though.  Don’t go to a chiropractor that took a six-week course in acupuncture.  Look at the provider’s background and training.  Many have four-year degrees in Oriental Medicine.

To learn more about acupuncture, you may want to check it out online.

(My company, Xpress Healthcare, offers acupuncture discounts as part of one of our discount plans, however, at this time providers are available only in major cities.)

A Rather Unique List…

As I sit at my desk working on my home-based business in my new home, I am realizing how very fortunate I am.  In fact, I believe I am blessed.

In today’s world, so many people are suffering - struggling to put food on the table, trying to stay safe and alive in war-torn countries and hoping to stay healthy and alive.  With all this in mind, I would like to share my thoughts about my own situation.  Perhaps this will remind you to “count your blessings” as well.

·         I am a senior citizen, and like many others, I have health issues.  However, I realize how minor they are when compared to many people I see every day and the millions around the world.
·         After living in another state for nearly twenty years, my husband and I recently returned to the state where our family lives.  We have children, grandchildren, siblings and cousins whom we love and who love us in return.  They are all in excellent or relatively good health.
Four Generations
·         We live in a lovely home with heat and air conditioning and no major repair issues.
·         We have plenty of food to eat and never have to worry from where our next meal will come.
·         We have clean, safe water to drink and with wish we can bathe.
·         We live in a relatively safe neighborhood where we feel secure in our home and to take a walk whenever we wish.
·         We are far from wealthy, but we have enough money to cover all our needs and a few wants.
·         Over our lifetime, we have been able to invest and save some money, providing us with a measure of security when combined with our income.
·         We have good health insurance at a very reasonable cost.
·         We have friends about whom we care, both actual and virtual.

In addition to stating my blessings above, I would like to thank all of my IBO friends and associates for the support and assistance they have provided over the years I have been an IBO Toolbox Member.  You are all truly appreciated.

If you care to comment on this post, I would love for you to include something for which you too are grateful.

Do You Have What it Takes?

I read a wonderful piece today about entrepreneurship that was posted by Sandy Blomstrom.  I recommend that you read it here:  http://www.ibosocial.com/sanblomstrom/pressrelease.aspx?prid=376834  Sandy’s post inspired me to write this press release about entrepreneurs.
Without entrepreneurs, our economy would suffer dramatically – as though is hasn’t been bad enough over the past decade or so.  There are entrepreneurs like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Walt Disney and many lesser-known entrepreneurs, have changed the world in ways no one could have ever imagined.

What does it take to become a SUCCESSFUL entrepreneurs?  There is an ongoing debate as to whether entrepreneurs are born or “made.”  I will not get into that discussion now however.
There are several things that I believe are absolute requirements.
Preparation!  Before you dive into your new business, be prepared.  Will you actually have the time and money required to operate your business?  Do you have a business plan?  Do not only focus on your goals.  Consider what could go wrong as well.  When a crisis arises, you need to know how you will handle it.
Prevent Burnout.  When people first start out in a new business, they are usually really excited, pumped up.  However, if you push too hard at the beginning, you will likely burnout.  Pace yourself.  Do not allow your emotions to control your actions.  In this way, when you do come across challenges, you will still have the energy to deal with the situation.
Be ready for a roller coaster ride.  Every entrepreneur has times when they wonder whether their efforts are being wasted.  Starting a new business is difficult, and you will have both ups and downs.  If you need a brief break, take one, but never stop moving forward.  Continue to work toward your goals.
If you don’t take care of YOU, who will?  When you’re wrapped up in the excitement of your new business, it is easy to skip meals, not get enough sleep or forget to stay hydrated.  If you allow your health to suffer, your business will too.
Don’t buy into the hype and believe your business will begin growing right away.  Too many people exaggerate how quickly an entrepreneur can build their business.  No matter how long you think it will take to reach your goals, it will take longer.  I am not referring to weeks or months.  To grow a successful business, it may well take years.
Expect the unexpected.  No matter how prepared you believe you are unforeseen challenges will arise.  Keep your eyes wide open so those encounters don’t take you by surprise.
As for and accept help. We all want to be the champion entrepreneur, but no one can do it entirely alone.  If you discover that you lack a particular skill to complete a task, ask someone with that skill for help.  Do not allow yourself to believe you can do everything.  No one can.
When you are on a journey, stop to see the scenery.  When you decide to become an entrepreneur, you should immediately ask yourself why. What is your ultimate goal?  In addition, set smaller goals along the way to give you a sense of accomplishment when you achieve them.  When you know your journey may take years, it helps to stop and enjoy your smaller achievements along the way.
Be aware that you may need to change directions along the way.  If you love your products and your business, you should be confident that you will do well.  However, there is always more than one way to perform an activity.  If you find that your marketing is not bringing the results you hoped for, find other ways to market.  Do not get stuck in a rut believing you must carry on in the same direction if there are stop signs in front of you
Anyone who is totally honest with themselves knows that starting a business can be way beyond difficult – and it is for most people.  However, if you love what you are doing and you are passionate about your product or service, you likely will find it worth the effort.  Entrepreneurship is NOT for everyone and no one particular business opportunity is good for everyone.  It's up to you to determine if the journey will be worthwhile.

“All Great Changes are Preceded by Chaos”

Everyone resists change at least occasionally, some more than others.  We must face changes in both our professional and personal lives.  How we accept, deny or react to those changes is a measure of our strength – strength of character, moral strength, emotional strength and even physical strength.
The title of this post is a quote from Deepak Chopra.  Sometimes the chaos is only in our minds, while other times, enacting changes can be physically challenging.  A change at your office may be difficult to learn.  If the change involves overcoming a bad habit, it can be particularly trying.  Habits take a long time to become habits.  Overcoming them may take even more time, but the effort is worth it.
Trying something new, which is also a change, can be frightening.  What if we fail?  What if we make fools of ourselves?  What if it is too difficult for me?  If you do not step out of your comfort zone and try it, you will never know the answer to these questions.  You may be very surprised by the results.
It can be uncomfortable, even emotionally painful to accept change or initiate it yourself.  Why, you may wonder, would you want to initiate change?  Breaking a habit, like quitting smoking, is a huge and often very uncomfortable change.
Are you in a business that seems to be going nowhere?   We have all heard it, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”  If the way you are working your business isn’t working, it is time to make a change – maybe several changes!  In order to move your business forward, you must do something different than you have been doing.  But that’s exactly what you must do to move forward.  It’s not life-threatening pain, but you may suffer some discomfort in the process.
There is a process to initiating change yourself.
·        You must acknowledge that there is a problem that needs fixing.
·        You must decide the best method to make the change.
·        You must take action; take the first step toward the change.
·        Continue, step-by-step, taking action until you have completed the necessary change
If someone else put the change into place, do you agree that it was a necessary change?  If you do, you likely will embrace it and learn it quickly.  If you dislike the change, ask yourself, “Do I dislike it simply because I don’t like change, or do I believe the change was unnecessary or believe it may be harmful rather than helpful?”
Not all supervisors, managers or business owners make great decisions every time.  The newly-enacted change may be ineffective, even damaging to your company.  However, unless you are in management yourself, you must accept the change.  If it is truly a poor change, management will likely realize it in time. They may return to “the old way,” but you cannot expect that.  If you want to keep your job, do whatever is asked of you in the manner you are instructed
Sometimes our lives can become stagnant.  You feel as though you’re running in circles and getting nowhere.  To get out of this rut, we must make changes in ourselves. Here again, a process is involved.
·        Determine what brought you to this point and what needs to be changed.  Make a list.
·        Write down WHY these changes are necessary.
·        How can you go about making these changes?
·        Finally, get to work.  Make the changes.  Take action.
I can use myself as an example here.  A couple years ago, I noticed I was bored with my life.  I wasn’t having fun.  I actually felt a bit lost.  Using the steps above, this is what I did:
·        I spoke with my husband, and together we realized that we were both unhappy living 600 miles from our children and grandchildren. We were tired of spending holidays alone. We determined the reason we needed to change.
·        We sat down and looked at our finances.  Could we afford to move to California (where the family is)?  Expenses are much higher there than where we are living in Arizona.
·        We worked out a budget that would enable us to sell our house and buy a house in California.
·        We put our house on the market.  It too well over two years, but finally we did sell our house.  We purchased one in California, and in about three weeks, we will be moving to California.
Change is rarely easy or convenient.  Perhaps it isn’t meant to be.  Facing changes make us think, which can help us grow.

Have you faced any challenging changes lately?  How did you handle them?

Ah-ah-ah Choo!

It seems that nearly everyone I know suffers from seasonal allergies.  Prior to moving to Arizona, I did not.
When I moved to Arizona, everyone I met advised me, “If you don’t have allergies now, you will within two years.”  They were right!
Some people believe that if they live in the desert, they won’t have allergies.  Wrong!  Here in Arizona, pollen is carried by the wind, whereas in California, for instance, most pollen is carried by insects from plant to plant, therefore fewer for us to breathe in.  Plus as the population of Arizona has increased non-native plants such as olive and mulberry trees have been introduced to the area, causing problems for sensitive people.
The symptoms of allergic rhinitis can be very mild to severe.  Those with Asthma especially suffer from seasonal allergies.
The most common symptoms of allergic rhinitis include: sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, watery eyes, itchy sinuses, throat, eyes, or ear canals, ear congestion and postnasal drainage.  Less common symptoms may include: headache, shortness of breath, coughing, or wheezing.
There are many prescription and over-the-counter medications available to treat allergies, and there are also many natural remedies.  Neti Pots, saline spray, LOCAL honey, Hepa filters (for indoor allergies), which have proven results for many – but not all people.  There are also supplements such as spirulina, eyebright, and goldenseal, and bromelain that some people say relieve their symptoms.  Because supplements are not standardized nor are they FDA approved, check with your doctor before taking them.

There are many indoor allergens as well.  Those who suffer chronically from indoor allergies should keep their home especially clean.  An estimated 50 million Americans are allergic to everything from dust and dander, to mold and mites.

Every home has potential allergens, but there are five that trigger the most indoor allergies:
·        Dust can be made up of many things, each of which can trigger indoor allergies.  Tiny bits of plants, skin, soil, insects, food, fibers, and animal matter can all be part of dust.
·        Dust mite droppings are the most common trigger of allergy and asthma symptoms.  Dust mites can live throughout our homes – in carpeting, rugs, upholstered furniture, for instance - the most concentrated amounts are found in our beds.  They live on human dander (dead skin flakes).  They must have high humidity to survive.  (I was curious where dust mites come from, so I looked it up.  They occur naturally and can appear in nearly all homes.  The higher the humidity is in a home, the higher the higher the concentrations of dust mites in a home.  Dust mites do not drink water like we do; they absorb moisture from the air.
·        Mold and mildew thrive in high humidity.  Mold is most frequently found in places like bathrooms or damp basements.  Mold and mildew shed tiny spores -- and it is these spores that trigger indoor allergy symptoms.
·        For those with pet allergies, the cat’s or dog’s hair is not the culprit.  The allergic reaction to pets is actually caused by a tiny protein in an animal’s saliva.  Pet allergies can also be triggered by dander. Pet dander is sticky and light, so it will attach to our clothes, shoes and hair.  Then it can be carried anywhere.
·        Like dust, cockroaches can be found nearly everywhere.  Again, it isn’t the roach itself that triggers the allergic reaction. The potential allergen is a protein found in the cockroach’s droppings.
When I was young, I don’t remember so many people having allergies.  Was it not recognized/diagnosed as frequently, or could it be that the allergens themselves have increased along with the population?
Do you have allergies?

Do Not Allow Your Barber to Pull Your Teeth

Dental Discount Plans are Gaining in Popularity, and Dentists Love it!
http://www.dentistryiq.com/etc/designs/default/0.gifThere are millions of Americans with some type of discount health plan cards.  The plans are rapidly increasing in popularity.  There are also health discount cards that can save people money on many of their health care needs. In this particular post, I am addressing only the Discount Dental Plan Cards.
There are many companies that offer Discount Dental Plans today at varying costs and with different discounts.  My company, Xpress Healthcare is growing their membership dramatically.  (We only operate in the USA.)  Xpress’ Dental Plan is only $19.95 per month/per FAMILY!   Several other discount benefits are included in the Dental Plan, but as I mentioned, I am writing only about Dental Plans right now.
More dentists are contracting with Discount Dental Plan companies every day.  There are two great benefits to the dentists if they accept discount cards.  1) They likely will gain more new patients; and 2) They are paid on the day of service.  Unlike with dental insurance, there are no claim forms to file, and it doesn’t take weeks for the dentist to get paid since plan members pay at the time of service.
Dental plans appeal to individuals, families and businesses, because they offer discounts on nearly all dental services, including cosmetic procedures, which are usually not covered by traditional dental insurance plans or Medicare. Procedures such as crowns, caps and veneers are often not covered at all by dental insurance, but if they are, the patient will still have to pay a large percentage of the cost out of pocket.
My husband and I both had dental procedures done last year.  With our Dental Discount Card, we saved about $1000 in 2013. The public is beginning to realize that the low monthly fee could easily be covered by their dental discounts even if they need only one procedure during the year.  If they have a family plan – at no additional fee with Xpress Healthcare – just getting their X-rays, cleaning and exams can pay for the cost of the membership – sometimes many times over.
Using Discount Dental Cards is simple.  Once a member joins (no one can be turned down), they will locate a dental provider in their area using an online list.  The member enters their zip code, and a list of dentists in that area will appear.  They decide upon a dentist, schedule an appointment and show their membership card at the dentist’s office to receive an immediate discount.  Xpress Healthcare and some other companies use the Aetna Dental provider network, so you know there are plenty from which to choose.
The percentage of discounts may vary based upon the member’s location and what treatment they receive.  In general, discounts range from 15% to 50% of the dentist’s usual and customary rate (UCR).
Over the years, those using the discount plans have grown from only individuals and families to small businesses, large organizations, labor unions, colleges and more to reduce the ever-increasing costs and to maintain satisfied employees.
The Affordable Care Act (and Medicare) does not require adult dental care, so “Obamacare” does not change anything when it comes to adult dental treatment for most people.  In some States adult dental care is included in their insurance, but not for the vast majority.
Uninsured adults can, of course, choose to purchase a dental insurance policy; however, dental insurance is expensive and has many limitations as to what it covers.
Any dentist will tell you that dental health care is vital to good overall health.  In fact, tooth decay is one of the most widespread diseases in the country.  Using Discount Dental Plans, patients who have neglected their teeth can receive treatment and learn good dental habits.
I’m sure you can see that it is a win-win situation for both plan members and dentists who accept Discount Dental Plans.
Discount Plans are NOT insurance. They provide discounts at providers within their contracted network.  The plans make no payments to providers.

Is it a Hoax?

The internet is an amazing invention and means of communication, and for the most part, has improved our lives in a variety of ways.  HOWEVER, when people post urban legends without checking them out, they may actually be hurting people.

I recently saw one with a picture of a breast with metallic-looking holes all over it.  Supposedly the woman got some kind of parasite from not washing her new bra before wearing it.  It was disgusting, and I imagine it frightened some people.

I’ve seen quite a few posts recently about missing children.  I always check them out before forwarding.  ONLY the ones that are true Amber Alerts are true.  In this case, it will cause a “crying wolf” response, and soon people may not respond to the real alerts.  Children may be injured or killed because of these irresponsible posts.

Gerber is giving away $500 savings bonds to each child under the age of 12 as part of a legal settlement… Intel and AOL will pay your for forwarding this email …a major fried chicken franchise uses mutant chickens - that is why the word "chicken" is no longer in their name … 60 Minutes reported that Proctor and Gamble is a satanic company… Target is owned by Muslims in France… Diet soda will give you Multiple Sclerosis…

All of the above – and many more - are stories - being passed around Facebook, via emails and Twitter.  They are ALL false!

Millions of people pass on stories about saving a dying child, trying to get something for nothing by forwarding emails, or warning their friends of deadly food or other hazard.  People may think there is no harm – just in case it’s true.

Passing on hoaxes and urban legends can slow the internet down; but worse than that, passing on these stories may be giving ideas to the same “sick” people who create viruses and spyware.  They may then copy the ideas from these untrue stories and turn them into reality.  This has actually already happened a few times.

In addition, when legitimate, very serious warnings are posted, their credibility is lessened because of all the garbage that readers pass on.  It becomes difficult to discern truth from reality.

Many of the hoax emails and posts offer a “verifying” source to give it more credibility.  They will say that the source is a huge company, like Microsoft.  If a post tells you to forward this to everyone you know it is almost always a hoax.

Before forwarding posts and emails of this sort, PLEASE be responsible.  Check the messages out first.  It only takes a couple minutes to visit http://snopes.com, http://www.scambusters.org/legends.html, http://urbanlegends.about.com, http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp, or http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.htmlto verify whether the post is true or a hoax.

I am a Lousy Salesperson!

The main reason most people join a network marketing company is not to sell anything.  Most join to improve their quality of life. So how do you sell a product if you don’t want to become a salesperson?  Sell yourself, not your products or business opportunity.  One of the best methods of establishing a network marketing business is by not focusing on selling to your prospects.

Where do you begin? 1)  Build a relationship with your prospects so you understand their needs and wants while earning their trust and respect.  2) Get to know your prospect to see if they have the desire to purchase your products or are seeking a business opportunity.

If your prospects know, like and trust you, they will be more willing to listen to what you have to share.  If you are asking a prospect to join your downline, you first have to establish a relationship so the prospect can see that they would feel comfortable working with you.

An easy guideline to remember when talking with your prospects is that you should always aim to create friends first.  A good way to do this is to ask questions and listen to what they have to say. Take a sincere interest in their lives.

Once you have established a relationship, ask yourself, “Could I improve this person’s quality of life with my products?”  If yes, in what way?  Or ask yourself, “Does this person have the qualities I’m looking for as a business partner?”  If yes, how can you present your opportunity in a way that offers them a solution to their problems or improves their quality of life?

When it comes to finding downline distributors in particular, your goal is to find the right people, not just the willing.  You are looking for motivated, coachable people who will actively work their business. It is important to know that not everyone you know or with whom you communicate will have the qualities you are looking for. That’s fine. Enjoy the fact that you have just made a new friend.  If you try to sign everyone you meet, you may end up with a team of poorly qualified team members who quit after a short time.  As a professional, your goal is simply to build relationships.

If an online contact asks me what I “do,” I respond with a one line response.  I might say, “I work at home selling discount plans.”  I’ve never had anyone object to that type of response, because I gave no specific details and did not follow up with a proposition.  Sometimes the person will ask for further details; others do not.

If the prospect shows an interest in my products or opportunity, I simply answer their questions. I don’t give them a full-blown presentation.  If they truly express an interest at that time, I refer them to my website to learn more.  For my own business - keeping in mind that I work primarily online - those who are really interested will visit my websites.  Many will then contact me to join my team or purchase my products.

It is very important that you not jump at the first chance to share what you have to offer.  As the saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.”  Jumping in too early can weaken the trust that you have created in your relationship.  If your internet “friend” never becomes a true prospect, you are better for having gained a new friend.
